Headlines From Around The Card World

... or at least my collecting and trading world.  

I've been doing a lot of trading lately, but not necessarily from the football "hoard" lists I've been posting.  Several trades have actually come from Sports Card Forum, where I used to hit a lot of people that would have stacks of commons that I needed, but all they want is high end Derek Jeter autos or big name rookie parallels.  

This time it's been different.  I've made trades for team lots, player collections, or just for those last few cards to complete a set.  And I've received nice stacks of stuff from my want lists in return.  Of course, most of it I've already put away and haven't shown on here.

The card at the top of the post comes from a trader on the Database.  It's the first time I've actually traded on there where both sides were listed in our inventories.  But don't get excited, it was a one card trade and my end was from the 2015 Score Scorecard parallels that I just threw in to my Trade list to see how it works.   I put the base set in there just now, and that's all the tradelist I have on there so far.  I don't really plan to expand it much beyond that set at this point.  It would be a second job listing all I have in 15 monster boxes of tradeable stuff on there....

A quick thanks goes out to Cynical Buddha from Collector's Crack.  He and I made a trade on the database as well.  Though I was just searching his want lists on there this time.  I sent a whole stack of Green Bay Packers, and he returned fire with some Washington football cards from my wants.  Won't post them unless you really want to see 'em.  Appreciate the trade, Mark!

I've also been loading up the Database site with scans of different things I've either just acquired or just found that I had that needed images.  Here's another tease on a future post about an eBay purchase I made from Latvia:

And finally, keeping with the hockey theme, I just found these in a drawer.  They were stuck in a taped up corner of an envelope.  Forgot I had them.   They are 1974 and '75 Nabisco Sugar Daddy candy insert cards.  It's a multi-sport set with football, hockey and hoops players.  They are about the size of tobacco minis, but slightly shorter, and only about 3/4 as wide.

In with those were two 1980-81 Topps basketball cards of another home (region) Washington team with a name that had to be changed.  This set was made up of regular size card panels of three perforated sections that were individual cards.  The most notable card in the set has Larry Bird, Julius Erving, and Magic Johnson on the same card - and they're rookies!  Here are my cards...

They're a bit wider than the Sugar Daddys, but a little shorter as well...

Anyway, that's all I've got so far.  I've been mulling over a post about the long range effect of everyone collecting rookies and nothing else, as well as another about the ridiculousness of the prices of prospects vs. cards of those players who actually turned out to be career superstars.  The research continues...but for now, this is Collective Mind News, signing off...
