Guess Whooo Sent Some Heritage

Got a large quantity of 2023 Heritage from Greg the Night Owl this Saturday.

Yeah, the toughest part of Heritage is the short prints.  I have exactly one from each series.

They came in a pair of packages.  Guess he was out of bigger mailers.

Two big bags full. (Editor's note: N.O. is a "back flapper").

All the big names, inserts, All-Stars, etc.

Trout, Alonso, Cole, Ramirez, Swanson, Rutschman, Betts, Witt.  All the current guys I recognize.  (And a lot that I don't, of course.)

Of course, anyone outside of the database is competing with all the trades I've been getting.  And this day wasn't any different.  Got these two sheets worth the same day.  But I don't mind the dupes.

All of this allowed me to put names by the remaining numbers in my list.  I'm down to 27 regular series base and 33 high series.  All of Greg's were regulars, which meant that list went from twice as big to below the quantity of the high series needs.  I've traded for the entirety of what I have.  Haven't bought a single card from this set.

Hopefully I can find a good starter batch of the SP's down the line.  Wouldn't mind a couple of the Adley variants as well.

Thanks Greg! from Greg...

Night Owl Sends Classics, Favorites, Icons, and Sensations

Got some return fire from the Night Owl camp today.

Started small with a '23 insert and a 2008 Baseball Icon from Allen & Ginter sets.

Then the penultimate 2004 Topps All-Time Fan Favorites Mattingly.  I'm down to just the Yastrzemski for the set now.

Always overjoyed to knock out another 2005 UD All-Star Classics insert.  These are elusive.  And there are a lot of them on my want list.

Greg sent the Dodger portion of the last few 2023 Stadium Club I'm still lacking.  Between this one and four more that I have coming in TCDB trades, I'm back down to the one I thought was last before I went back and checked and found the rest of them still missing.  (It's Alvarez from the Mets.)

One more chip off the SP list for the latest Heritage.  These haven't been nearly as hard to get as older years short prints.  Hope it lasts until I'm done.

And finishing out the batch, a second copy of the Palmer Sensations from the same Heritage.  Did this design actually show up in '75 somewhere?  I was just happy there was another group of retired players besides the box toppers.

Thanks to Greg for the list hits and the blog post material.

Owl's, O's (and a Jay) On A Mailday

Got a couple trades in the other day that cosmically intersected, so I thought I'd share.  I really should put up more trade posts...but anyway....

These are from a TCDB trade with TSCastle.  Palmer Select and the two Kuhl parallels are for player collections.  While the Heritage base are for my 3rd, 4th and 5th sets.  (I have a 6th building, but probably won't finish it before it gets broken up.)  Though it may be true that everyone else is done with it by now.  The inserts are for my own set.

The same delivery brought these from Night Owl, who was hoping that I regularly go after my local teams.  I really don't, but I do keep their parallels with the base sets (esp. back when I still did flagship.)  So it's cool to have these.  The Sparky is for his PC - it appeared in NO's post back in April when Heritage came out.  You'll notice he's a bit larger than his other '75 looking counterparts.  They're the 2024 minis!

So the (extra copies of the) base cards and the minis showed up on the same day.

I'll put 'em with the Heritage set and see if I find more of the mini O's later.

Thanks to TSCastle and Night Owl.  Happy trading!

Gavin Rocks The Custom Card Art

After a flourish of show loot posts, I have maintained my pattern of silence for almost a month between posts.  Between sorting the Storage Hoard, adding to my TCDB trade lists, and now setting about 100 new cards on COMC for sale, all my card time is used up in the evenings lately.

There have also been a steady (though not as heavy) stream of trade mail, including a package from Gavin of Baseball Card Breakdown.  He made me several customs in response to some loot I snagged for him at a couple of the shows.  Just recently, he posted many similar customs on his own blog just this past week.

He did send me a few actual cards...

Three Topps All Time Fan Favorites...

And this Leaf Bo Jackson, which killed my set.  More on him in a moment...

So here are the customs I got, though now with somewhat less mystery.  And the scans don't do these justice visually....

Sparkly Ozzy that he showed too.

Two of Ozzy's guitarist and Black Label Society front man Zakk Wylde

Bulletboys with the gold swirl background that is even cooler in person.

Customized on the backs as well.

And back to Bo - several takes on the '88 Topps design.  You almost need a laser to cut out around the letters, I suppose.

These are cool too...not sure which one I like best.

Hybrid '87D/'90T?  I like it!

And finally, what I think is the cleanest custom, this '90 Fleer Bo football card - front & back.

Thanks Gavin, these are definitely a unique addition to my rock and player collections!

Night Owl Skillfully Navigates My Lists

As I returned home from the annual Ephrata, PA card show Saturday (more on that in a later post), I was greeted with a package from Night Owl in my mailbox.

The banner item was this 4½" x 7" Claude Osteen Ticketron photo.  On the back in the 1971 Dodgers schedule.  This will go well with the other oversize things of him in my PC.

Man, if you could go back and be there for the Sunday autographs sessions...

Also included were these two Cal Ripkens.  The A&G is the shiny flavor, and the left one must be from Archives or something, it has the '69 design on the back.

The bulk of this package was current Stadium Club, however.  I really like these Triumvirates, even though they're really tough to put together.  I decided I wanted the first three from the Orioles at least.  One down, two to go.

The rest were hits from my base set that are what's left after my break of compact boxes a few weeks ago.  Still had a lot of them to find.

The majority of them were, of course, Dodgers.  Some big names too!

Even if I was unaware they are now Dodgers...

Or some that are iconic in blue...

Or just iconic....

The fascinating thing is, at my first stop at the show, I picked out 58 base singles from the same Stadium Club set.  When I saw NOwl had SC for me, I thought "Oh geez, I probably duplicated half of them."

But alas, there were NO duplicates.  We "dodged" that bullet. (ba dum bum)  Amazing!

So, to keep the exchange cycle going, I'll be sending this along to New York.

I have another show in two weeks that's even bigger, so I'll try again to hit some more, and hopefully find some other blogger's wants as well.

Thanks for the read.  Next time - my show haul....

This One Goes To Eleven

I was a little late to the party as usual, but still got a couple claims from Dime Box Nick's giveaway celebrating 11 years blogging.  He added a few bonus A&G's from this year as well.

Mini inserts like this are what makes Ginter the best product out there.  Time Out! is a series of events that delayed baseball games over the years.  What an original concept yet still a facet of the game.

Another neat theme - Pitching a Gem with birthstones.  And a non-MLB but still ballplayer and fitness trainer.

I still have to check to see if I'm actually missing this one in my Manny collection.  Figured it's worth a shot though.  These Swells really are swell and have so many of my PC guys.

Finally, a Mother's Cookies of the more-fan-favorite-than-All-Star Gene Tenace.  I don't see Mother's too often in the wild around here.  Always nice to snag one.

The PWE with the thick toploader apparently had issues on the way here.  But everything was intact.

Thanks Nick!  Here's to making it "one louder" all this time!

Everybody's Favorite Blog Trader

Got a "sheet strip special" (one row from a page in an envelope) from Gavin at Baseball Card Breakdown on the 12th.  Typical bunch of eclectic want list hits.

Brockum Rock cards series 2 of "Farner"...

Last All-Star insert from the bright yellow '91 Fleer set...

And a montage of the rest of them - 2004 All-Time Fan Favorites.  Harold got hung up coming out of the scanner, so his image was distorted at the end (didn't hurt the card).  I just ran them through and slapped 'em together in a few minutes.  These were a good 30 - 40% of my needs.

Thanks Gavin!
